The practical answer

Check which TruContain product generation you are comparing. Its current main listing describes edgeless absorbent and channeled options; that is a different purchase from an older raised-edge containment mat.

On narrow screens, scroll the table sideways. Manufacturer facts are distinguished from our planning guidance below.

Why older comparisons can send you to the wrong product

The current TruContain main product page offers absorbent and channeled formats and explicitly describes a move away from the older foam-edge design. An older article or installation sheet can therefore describe a different product than the one reached by its purchase link.

Compare the item currently selected in the seller’s material and size controls. Save its full name and dimensions with your quote. Do not transfer old claims about raised edges, construction or cleanup to a newer product just because the brand name is unchanged.

Containment is a different job from absorption or channels

A perimeter edge, an absorbent surface and channels manage a spill differently. Decide whether your main job is collecting snowmelt in one defined vehicle zone, absorbing small drips or keeping a usable surface beneath the car. None eliminates the need to remove moisture and inspect the slab below.

We have not tested liquid retention, drying time or traction for these products. Marketing descriptions are not comparative performance results. Ask the seller about your intended use if the difference matters; do not assume any mat will capture every drip or prevent a slippery walking surface.

Start with the vehicle, then check the garage

The AutoFloorGuard Mid-Size listing names AFG7918 and gives 7 feet 6 inches by 18 feet. Treat those as listed product dimensions, not guaranteed usable interior space. Confirm how much width is lost to any edge and where the car’s usual drips land.

Mark the proposed rectangle on a clean floor and park several times. Check the door opening, tire path, rear overhang and walking route. If the vehicle only fits when perfectly centered, a larger size or another layout may be more practical. Keep the garage door and its seals clear.

A price comparison needs the same size and material

The AFG7918 manufacturer page displayed $189.99 and backorder messaging when checked September 23, 2026. The current TruContain listing displayed a $169–$512.99 range across material and size choices. These are dated observations, not current offers or a like-for-like price comparison.

Request the delivered total for the specific variant you need. Include tax, return freight and any cleaning equipment not included. A larger low-cost mat can be poor value if there is nowhere to pull it out for cleaning; an expensive small mat is not a solution if the main drip area falls outside it.

Plan the cleanup before you order

Choose a place and method for removing captured water and grit. Follow the exact product’s maintenance guidance, especially for cleaning chemicals, drying and storage. Avoid a layout that requires dragging a full mat past fixed cabinets or across an occupied walking route.

Inspect beneath it periodically and address existing slab moisture issues independently. If you need a whole-floor surface as well as a parking zone, quote those as separate functions. Buying more material does not turn one water-management design into another.

Subtract border loss before allowing for parking variation

The 90-by-216-inch conversion is the published overall-size starting point, not a verified inside-basin measurement. If the containment edge reduces usable width, subtract that loss before allocating spare space on either side of the wet footprint. Any sideways parking variation then consumes the remaining allowance. A vehicle-class label cannot perform these checks.

Use the measurement illustration in the tiles-versus-mat guide, then tape the actual selected size in your garage. Keep the door seal and walking route in the plan. We have not verified an interior collection-area drawing for AFG7918, so a tight-clearance recommendation remains unresolved rather than guaranteed.

The nominal size is not a guaranteed finished size

AutoFloorGuard’s FAQ explicitly says the hand-cut, heat-sealed mats can vary in finished length and width, including standard and custom sizes. It does not provide a numerical tolerance in the reviewed answer. This is a second uncertainty beyond how much area the raised edge occupies.

For a tight garage, request both the minimum usable interior collection dimensions and the maximum finished outside dimensions for the exact mat. Do not deduct an assumed border width from 90 by 216 inches and label the result verified. A response about overall size alone does not resolve the inside-basin question.

Check the document as carefully as the size label

The AutoFloorGuard installation sheet distributed through Amazon also excludes slight finished-size variations caused by edge sealing. It supplies no dimensioned interior collection area. Its two instruction blocks give different warranty periods, so we do not treat that sheet as a verified current warranty for AFG7918. Ask the manufacturer for the applicable model-specific warranty and interior dimensions before relying on either.

Common questions

Is the original raised-edge TruContain the same as the new listing?

No. Confirm the product generation and construction. The current main listing describes edgeless formats; older inventory and older instructions need separate verification.

Which brand performs better?

This research does not establish a performance winner. Choose the required water-management format and fit first, then verify the exact product and maintenance instructions.

Does AFG7918 mean the mat is 7 feet 9 inches wide?

No. The current manufacturer listing gives 7 feet 6 inches by 18 feet. Use the documented dimensions, not an interpretation of the model code.
